Mid-June: Road Construction.

We "broke ground" in mid-June. The birch tree you see in the center of the photo will help keep our house warm this winter!

Unfortunately, poplar trees have little value as firewood and so we had to burn the debris. Ultimately, they hauled away the remains.

The stake with an orange ribbon to the right of center marks the south corner of the cabin to be.
Saturday, June 29: Floor construction.

My friend Keith, who is a builder and expert cabinetry artist in Grand Marais, helped us with the construction. Here he and Jon place the "sleepers" that will support the plywood floor on the concrete slab (constructed by a local cement mason). Peter is applying the foam sill seal to the bottom of the next sleeper. David, well, David is playing cards.

All done! By Saturday evening we had a floor. Here Jon and the boys try out the future porch.
