Monday, 8 August:
(No photos)

After a run to Sawtooth Lumber for stain, I stained the outside gables and the undersides of the yet-to-be installed roof overhangs.

Tuesday, 9 August:  Rain!

Rain killed my plans to stain the walls with their first coat.  However, a kind neighbor down the hill, Jack, stopped by and offered his help.  So we installed the pine tongue and grove flooring in the loft.  The prospect of more rain worried me and Jack also helped me install the loft egress window.   Amazingly when we put a level on the window, it was perfectly level-- no shims required!

Keith and I installed the four roof overhangs in the afternoon.  All that remained was the roof covering.  Note some of the eve flashing has been installed.

Wednesday, 10 August

Fitting precut pieces of OSB to fit the 30' length of the roof was a puzzle, especially when the seams had to fall on roof panel rafters.

By Wednesday night, all the OSB was on the roof, a good thing since I was sleeping in the cabin.

Thursday, 11 August

On Thursday, we covered most of the NW roof with Weather Shield.  All that remained was the peak.

Friday, 12 August

We finished the Weather Shield by lunch time.  Because I hadn't calculated for enough overlap, we had to use some tar paper left over from our shed construction.  In the end we had one square foot of covering left over!  Talk about cutting it close!

Keith's Corgi puppy, Minnie, carefully inspects our work.

Working fast as I could, I managed to stain all the exterior walls.  The difference between two coats of stain (gable) and one coat (wall) is evident.   Both will darken even more after the third and final coat of stain is applied.

After seven days, this is the result.  Shingles to come soon!

Friday & Saturday, 19 & 20 August:  Roofing and Chimney.

Keith installing the chimney support.  Shingles in process!
