People on Myspace aren’t who they say they are KayleyJohnson
Appearances can sometimes be deceiving in the 21st century. Sure it’s easy to tell what someone’s physical features are in person. Walking down the street you can see everything from guys in tight jeans to older women with facelifts. But what is hard to define, are the physical features of what I call a “MySpace Junkie.”
I scroll down a list of search results for NCC and it is obvious that this is surely the “MYSPACE GENERATION.”
I just got out of class and the first thing that I want to do is check my MySpace. I come to the student center and see that I am not the only one.In fact, I have seen some of the same people in here using MySpace.com everyday.
As I turn my head to the desk walls I notice a yellow sheet of paper. It is titled rules for appropriate use of internet resources. Part 2.0 is about communications over the internet. The first type of message you could send is credited a “Fraudulent Message.”
Lying about what you look like, where you live and how old you are is just not something we should be advocating.
There are hundreds of people on MySpace.com who have put up entirely deceiving photographs of themselves or worse, other people. I suppose it was inevitable that people on MySpace.com were going to start meeting up in real life. My younger cousin met her boyfriend on MySpace and I myself have made a good friend from it. But there are more than a couple bad apples bobbing around this internet community. I suppose it also didn’t take long for MySpace.com to get sued by a 14 year old girl who was sexually harassed. Also, one girl tricked her parents into getting her a passport so that she could fly to the Middle East to be with a man whom she met on MySpace.com.
MySpace is a social networking website offering an interactive, user-submitted network of friends, personal profiles, blogs, groups, photos, music and videos. Going back to the Normandale results list, I come across what appear to be actual Normandale students. There is a big Myspace.com community in Normandale with roughly 2480 users in this school.
So maybe those Myspace.com nay-sayers will be quiet when they finally join the community. Sure there are old men who pretend to be young men, big women who pretend to be skinny women and white guys who think their name is Nelly. But the truth is that we can all find something or someone, just by the click of a button.
