It's hard to ignore a movie with these awards: Academy Award: Best Writing Adapted Screenplay; Independent Spirit Award: Best Feature; Independent Spirit Award: Best Director; and Independent Spirit Award: Best Male Lead.
Still, none of these awards do justice to the beauty of “Sideways,” directed by Alexander Payne. “About Schmidt,” nominated for 5 Golden Globe awards, was the last film Payne worked on prior to “Sideways” and Payne's films continue to accumulate accolades.
“Sideways” follows the mid-life crises of Miles (Paul Giamatti) and Jack ( Thomas Haden Church ) as they explore California 's wine country and their own success and failures in life.
Needless to say, I don't need to mention anymore about the plot. The movie was absolutely wonderful.
The “Sideways” DVD was packed full of things I never thought I would watch: director's commentary, behind the scenes look at the making of the film and other creative pieces of filmmaking glory.
These special features were complimentary to the film itself, which allowed me to relish the entire “Sideways” experience without ever leaving my La-Z-Boy. |
