Leaders discuss faith, answer questions

Religious leaders of differing faiths spoke and answered questions Tuesday in the NCC Auditorium.

The religious leaders who spoke at the forum were Shaik Hesham Hussein, representing Muslims and followers of Islam, Father Michael Tegeder, representing Roman Catholics, Pastor Gary Lay, speaking for Protestant and Rabbi Sharon Stiefel, who served as a representative of the Jewish faith.

The leaders spoke about their faith's beliefs on god, gay marriages, war, equality of women and answered questions posed by students.

The NCC Student Senate Diversity Committee and the NCC President's Diversity Task Force sponsored the forum.

Diversity Committee Chair Daniel Aguilar, who worked with committee members and the task force to organize the event, said the forum was outstanding.

“I didn't think it was going to be this good but it turned out well,” he said.

Aguilar said the leaders thanked the committee for hosting the forum and said they would be willing to come back.

Based on the event's success and the positive feedback, Aguilar said the committee plans to host the forum again next year.
