What to do to graduate
By Tawana Grimes
Students planning to finish their coursework at NCC this spring semester should submit an application for graduation as soon as possible.
Degree applications with checklists are available in the Career Center, Records and Counseling Offices near the main entrance.
After completing the paperwork, return all copies along with the filing fee and pre-graduation follow-up survey to the Accounting Office or the box drop, located at C1087.
The filing fee for degree processing is $20 for Associate Degree applications and $10 for Certificate Program applications.
Immediate submission is crucial for avoiding further delays of final evaluation, degree awarding, and the diploma or certificate.
Diplomas and certificates mailed within four to eight weeks after final certification will reflect the date of the final semester term and year in which all graduation requirements are completed.
Before applying, review the checklist that explains graduation eligibility requirements.
These include a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA on college level courses 1000 or greater. It is recommended that students meet with a counselor regarding degree programs.
The final deadline for fulfilling all graduation requirements is 30 days following the last day of the semester.
The pre-graduation follow-up survey is used exclusively by alumni and researchers collecting data.
This survey requests contact info, continuing education information and employment facts after a graduate leaves NCC.
This year’s graduation ceremony begins at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, May 16 for all graduates from the Summer 2007, Fall 2007, and Spring 2008 semesters.
Students intending to graduate in Summer 2008 can also take part in the ceremony as long as they have registered for eight credits and receive approval to do so.
Eligible candidates receive commencement specifics in late March if they meet the February 28 spring priority application deadline.
If planning on participating in the ceremony, students should return the reservation card and 15 dollar participation fee by Friday, Apr. 18.
The $15 participation fee covers the use of the red gown and black cap worn during commencement. An additional $10 fee will be added for late submissions.
Each graduate receives five guest tickets. Additional tickets must be purchased for family and guests attending due to limited seating and may be purchased this May in the bookstore.
