NCC will compete in ice hockey tournament

NCC’s Ice Hockey Team is going to be competing for the 2009 Gold Skate Championship following a season of well-fought games.

With a record of three wins and five losses, Normandale is the third ranked team out of four competing for the championship. Other teams competing for the Gold Skate title are Anoka- Ramsey, North Hennepin and Inver Hills.

The tournament is a two game series. With a 20-minute overtime period if there is a tie in the end and a five-person shootout if a tie still occurs. The winner of those series will face each other in a final two game series for the Gold Skate Championship with the same overtime rules.

The first sets of games are on Feb. 26. Number four seed Inver Hills will play against first seeded Anoka Ramsey at Crook Arena while second seed North Hennepin will face NCC at the Bloomington Ice Gardens.

The second set of games are on March 3 with Anoka Ramsey traveling to Wakota Irena to face Inver Hills and NCC takes on North Hennepin at Brooklyn Park Community Center.

North Hennepin has had their way with NCC so far this season, beating them two times out of three. North Hennepin outscored Normandale by a margin of 23 to 7, according to statistics kept by Kay Okey.
