Deceased student remembered as 'terrific human being'
By Letisha Harris
A tragic accident took the life of NCC student Salahadin Mohamed, and injured Frank Jordheim, NCC faculty member Krista Jordheim’s husband, on Dec. 11, 2006.
The accident took place on Interstate35E during the morning commute. Mohamed was driving southbound while Jordheim was driving northbound. It is believed that Mohamed’s car must have hit a patch of ice causing him to lose control and sending his car through the median and through the air, landing right in front of Jordheim’s Jeep.
Mohamed died at the scene but his 8-month-old daughter, who was also in the car, was ejected but is said to be doing well and will recover.
Jordheim’s Jeep had a winch on the front that took most of the force of the accident though he still suffered five broken ribs as well as broken bones under his left knee, the bone known as tibia plateau. He had surgery on his knee, having eight pins placed in it. Physically he is recovering well, however it will take some time to fully recover emotionally.
Krista Jordheim has been collecting contributions for the wife and daughter of Mohamed and will be delivering them to his family within the next two weeks or so. In a faculty-wide email, Jordheim described “Selad” Mohamed as a “terrific human being” and noted how sorely he will be missed.
Individuals who would like to make a contribution or donation can contact Jordheim at Krista.Jordheim@normandale.edu for more information. Donations can also be brought to Jordheim’s office at S2328.
