Lions' Roar reporter wins state journalism award

By Richard Johnson

The NCC Lions’ Roar’s own Barb Teed was recognized at the Minnesota Newspaper
Association’s 2005-2006 Better Newspaper Contest.

Teed’s article about the tennis courts on campus, which appeared early last semester, won second place in the Investigative Reporting category. The program for the event, cleverly designed in the same fashion as a newspaper, notes how Teed took a topic that would be overlooked by most, but bothered to explore the subject enough to make it a wonderful and worthwhile read.

Numerous newspapers submit entries to the MNA each year, many of them dailies from four-year institutions, and Teed’s excellent work received the acknowledgement
it certainly deserves.

Despite being an honoree at the event, Teed was more focused on securing an interview on with Governor Tim Pawlenty, who spoke at the event, for her story in this issue on veterans’ resource centers. Teed’s tireless reporting and writing has continued and very well could earn her recognition at next year’s event as well.
