Grant Writing Resources

Writing effective and competitive grant proposals takes time and attention to detail.  Research and plan thoroughly. Write clearly and persuasively. For assistance, refer to resources listed below or contact Mary Krugerud, Grant Development Director at x8224. 

On the Grant Development Office Website:

Creating a Successful Application offers suggestions on organization, research, and delegation. 

Writing and Formatting the Proposal describes how to produce a clearly written narrative. 

Letters of Intent or pre-proposals are used by some funding sources to screen applications.  

Obtaining Letters of Support and Commitment describes collaborations and partnerships.

Developing a Budget is a guide for developing a typical budget.

Classes:

Grantseeking for Beginners offered by the Minnesota Council on Foundations. Cost is about $100.

The Center for Nonprofit Management at the University of St. Thomas offers two grant writing courses:  Grant Writing Essentials (about $150) and an Advanced Grant Writing clinic (about $100).

Community College Research Center Carries out and promotes research on major issues affecting the development, growth and changing roles of community colleges in the United States.

State Demographics Center at Minnesota Planning offers population and income projections and estimates.

The Minnesota Department of Education's Data Center is a repository of information on the state's school districts.

Digest of Education Statistics, published by the U.S. Department of Education provides a compilation of education statistics from pre-kindergarten through graduate school.

Bureau of Labor Statistics provides statistics about labor in the United States.

Census 2000 is the gateway to all demographic information available from the 2000 census.
