Math Teaching Degree Program at Normandale

A collaboration with Normandale and Mn State U, Mankato will enable students to earn a four-year, 5-12 Math Teaching degree on the Normandale campus.  Students who wish to start the program this fall must have completed Calculus 3 or Calculus 4 and must take a new course, Math 2700 Fundamentals of Mathematical Proofs, this summer, June 2-July 17.

Starting Fall 2008, students will take the math and education courses through Minnesota State, Mankato.  Courses will be offered on Normandale’s campus by Mankato faculty, or by Inter Active TV (ITV). This pilot program will enable students to do all their course work at Normandale, do program field experiences and practicums in metro area schools, and earn their four-year degree from Minnesota State University, Mankato.  Go to program requirements for more information about required Normandale courses, application information, and Mankato requirements.

EdTrAc: Pathway to Teaching

Elementary teacher education, special education, and secondary math education are the focus of Normandale’s Education Training Academy (EdTrAc). Normandale Community College currently offers two Associate of Science degrees for education. Click the Degree tab for more information.

Through EdTrAc’s partnership with Minnesota State University, Mankato, students can earn a four-year teaching degree in one of these three areas on the Normandale campus.

EdTrAc is also a resource center for pre-service teachers, in-service teachers, and paraprofessionals.

Praxis™ Practice

Students are urged to spend some time studying and preparing for the Praxis™ to better ensure success the first time.  We have prepared a PowerPoint presentation with information on how to prepare.  There are also some site references for additional practicing options.  Click the News tab to run the presentation. The presentation works best in Microsoft Explorer.  Students with a county library card can go to their county library website to find previously-used Praxis™ tests that can be taken, are scored for correctness, and are timed.  This is a great way to simulate a test situation.  In the county website, look for a database called LearningExpressLibrary (no spaces between words).
