Free Tutoring

Free tutoring is available in the Academic Support Center for all students attending Normandale Community College. Tutoring is available on a walk-in basis. Our tutors do not take appointments. The ASC provides tutoring support in many areas of study.

To receive tutoring:

  1. Check the Tutoring Schedule online or pick one up in the ASC or on bulletin boards around campus.
  2. Find a time when your class is being tutored.
  3. Walk in and introduce yourself to the tutor.

Important Reminders for Students

You will make the most of a tutoring session if you:

  • Bring your textbook, notes, and syllabus.
  • Start the assignment to pinpoint specific areas of concern.
  • Prepare specific questions for the tutor.
  • Bring a positive attitude and a willingness to try.

The goal of our tutors is to help you become a more independent learner. Tutors are not permitted to do any of your work for you, including checking or correcting your homework or assignment or teaching you course content because you have been absent from class. A tutoring session lasts up to 30 minutes.

Tutors will do the following for students:

  • Review rules, concepts and types of problems
  • Ensure that you are following directions correctly
  • Find patterns of errors
  • Help you find your own answers
  • Offer study tips
  • Offer encouragement
  • Direct you to self-help resources

Faculty Tutoring

Various instructors spend one or more of their office hours each week in the ASC. These instructors are available for tutoring on a walk-in basis. Schedules for faculty tutors will be posted on the tutor schedule and on our website.
