Service-Learning and Volunteerism
1. Service-Learning
Service-Learning is an exciting teaching strategy that integrates classroom theory with meaningful community service projects in an effort to enhance curriculum and promote civic responsibility.
Students engage in activities that benefit their community while developing a connection between classroom instruction and real-life situation. Normandale faculty and students agree that involvement in service strengthens the learning process.
How can I participate?

2. Participate in America Reads/America Counts
Note: It is preferred that your involvement in this activity is a year long commitment.

3. Volunteerism- 25 hours

Cultural Awareness
1. Study Abroad (Participating in a semester abroad will count as two of your activities for this component)
The following opportunities are annual trips- for more information contact Joyce Carey at X8361
Ciudad del Carmen, Mexico- Travel to Mexico and participate in various opportunities for service-learning, anthropology, and learn about the Mayan culture. This trip will count as one of your Cultural Awareness activities and one of your service-learning activities.
Eastern Europe 2007- Art focused trip for a portion of the semester. Please contact Yvonne Klocek for more information, X8319
A Study Tour in China (Cultures of China ) Summer Session II, July 20 - July 31 Come to one of the following Information Meetings and learn more about it. Highlights include guided tours to Beijing , X'ian (Terra Cotta Army), Guilin , Guangzhou and Hong Kong. Beijing will be featured at the Information Meetings. Sign up now so you don't miss out. 2. Attend a FISH! Philosophy workshop
The FISH! Philosophy is a way of life. You can learn how to be a great person while you're doing what you're doing. We'll discuss how to Choose your Attitude, Be There, Make Peoples' Days and Play!
