Involvement

1. Join a club or organization

Clubs- Normandale has almost 40 active clubs. There are academic clubs, cultural club and general interest clubs! Find one to join by clicking here.

5. Participate in the Peer Mentoring program

The Peer Mentor Program involves matching successful students on a one-to-one confidential basis with students who would like to meet with students who have been at Normandale and know the resources of the college. For more information please contact Paul Harlos at X8255.

6. Attend an Involvement Fair

Fall Involvment Fair - September 10, 2008 from 10:00am-2:00pm in the Student Center Plaza

Spring Involvement Fair - January 21, 2009 from 10:00am-2:00pm at the Kopp Student Center Cafeteria

7. Join The Health Nuts

Meets every Wednesday at 1:00pm and 3:00pm in Club Central, Kopp Student Center

8. Plan a Wellness event in partnership with Health Nuts

Service-Learning and Volunteerism

1. Service-Learning

Service-Learning is an exciting teaching strategy that integrates classroom theory with meaningful community service projects in an effort to enhance curriculum and promote civic responsibility.

Students engage in activities that benefit their community while developing a connection between classroom instruction and real-life situation. Normandale faculty and students agree that involvement in service strengthens the learning process.

How can I participate?

Sign up for a class that offers a Service-Learning option, designated in the course catalog

Sign up for Sociology 1103, Service-Learning and Community Awareness

2. Participate in America Reads/America Counts

 Note: It is preferred that your involvement in this activity is a year long commitment.

If you have any question about America Reads/America Counts or would like to sign-up for this activity please contact the Service-Learning Coordinator, Kelly Norri at X8118 or Wanda Kanwischer at X8123.

3. Volunteerism- 15 hours

Get involved in a variety of on and off-campus projects on your own!

Cultural Awareness

1. Study Abroad (Participating in a semester abroad will count as two of your activities for this component)

The following opportunities are annual trips- for more information contact Dan Creed at X8361

Ciudad del Carmen, Mexico- Travel to Mexico and participate in various opportunities for service-learning, anthropology, and learn about the Mayan culture. This trip will count as one of your Cultural Awareness activities and one of your service-learning activities.

Eastern Europe 2007- Art focused trip for a portion of the semester. Please contact Yvonne Klocek for more information, X8319

A Study Tour in China (Cultures of China ) Summer Session II, July 20 - July 31 Come to one of the following Information Meetings and learn more about it. Highlights include guided tours to Beijing , X'ian (Terra Cotta Army), Guilin , Guangzhou and Hong Kong. Beijing will be featured at the Information Meetings. Sign up now so you don't miss out. Are you an ally or would like to be an ally to the GLBT community? Explore what it means to be an ally, discuss topics and acquire ally tools and skills.

Come buy a bowl of soup, admire fabulous pottery and support the Pottery Club. Proceeds are donated to VEAP (Volunteers Enlisted to Assist People)

Leadership Growth

1. Attend a Lunch with Leaders Event

Come have lunch with campus and community leaders and discuss current leadership topics. This event has limited space- please contact Liz Sabel X7425 to reserve your spot.

2. Attend a FISH! Philosophy workshop

The FISH! Philosophy is a way of life. You can learn how to be a great person while you're doing what you're doing. We'll discuss how to Choose your Attitude, Be There, Make Peoples' Days and Play!
