COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The primary purpose of this course is to assist the student in examining and developing their competence as an interpersonal communicator in different relationships and in various communication contexts in any one relationship.  Cognitive, behavioral and affective interpersonal skills will be explored.

 

COURSE CONTENT AREAS:

Communication theory, self-concept, perception, verbal and nonverbal communication, self-disclosure, assertiveness, emotions, listening and conflict.

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES AND LEARNING OUTCOMES:

 

I. COGNITIVELY, the student will have an awareness of interpersonal communication dynamics by

II. BEHAVIORALLY, the student will have the opportunity to learn and demonstrate the following interpersonal skills:

III. AFFECTIVELY, the student will be able to describe interpersonal predispositions, response styles, behaviors, and relational communication patterns in various significant relationships

EVALUATION SYSTEM:

Students will complete at least one self-reflection paper, one in-class behavioral exercise and one quiz/test.
