BUSN     2096:  COORDINATED BUSINESS EXPERIENCE INTERNSHIP

 

I.              Effective Date:  Fall 2007.  To be reviewed by department annually.

 

II.            Catalog Description:

                BUSN 2096  Coordinated Business Experience – 2 CR, SPR.  The development and assessment of career goals, job       search process, and basic work skills and transferable skills through a coordinated effort of the student, faculty        coordinator and on-the-job training sponsor (employer).  Student will be required to put in 350-800 hours on-the-job    training.

 

III.           Course Content:

                Student will develop the content of their own learning experience on-the-job by developing six learning objectives      with the training sponsor (employer) and internship coordinator (school).  These goals will be related to transferable skills of Management and/or Marketing.  Other projects will be included to develop career search skills and/or knowledge of their career choice in the field of business, marketing and management.

 

V.            Outcomes: 

                Upon successful completion of the course, the students should be able to:

 

                A.   Develop individual goals & objectives; monitor and evaluate the achievement of these goals and objectives.

                B.   Discuss current issues and topics facing employment, business and industry.

                C.   Develop marketable knowledge and skills required for successful business employment and the internship                                     position.

                D.   Develop pride, self-confidence and good work habits within the occupation.

                E.   Discuss and have increased awareness of the value of personal qualities such as neatness, courtesy, concern for                       others, and a sense of urgency when serving a customer. 

                F.   Demonstrate the traits of a good employee, which includes working with or without supervision, gain insight into                       management problems and solutions, developing a code of ethics governing the activity of business. 

                G.  Know, understand, and display a high level of business professionalism. 

 

VI.           Methods for Evaluation of Student Learning:

 

                A.  Discussion meetings with Internship Coordinator (School)

                B.  Inside/Outside Projects including writing a resume and reviewing a business best seller.

                C.  Final report on Goals & objectives

                D.  Training Station (Employer) Evaluation.

                E.  Development of a 10-year career plan.
