BUSN 1140 Introduction to International Business 3 CR FALL, SPR. Explores the world of a manager by aiding in the development of insights into successful planning, organizing, directing, staffing, and controlling an organization and it’s employees.
III. Recommended Skills: No prerequisites. Reading level 3, English level 2, Math level 1.

V. Outcomes: The following general objectives reflect the intended outcomes for the
course. At the conclusion of this course, you will:
A. Know the definition of management and understand the primary functions of management
(planning, organizing, leading and controlling).
B. Understand the historical and philosophical origins of management.
C. Be aware of and familiar with the use of current management theories and practices.
D. Be able to identify factors influencing ethical behavior and discuss how ethical behavior
can be encouraged by management.
E. Develop a familiarity of the critical factors that provide for effective performance in the
following managerial roles: leader, organizer, planner, decision maker, motivator and
controller.
F. Understand that adaptations may be necessary in management because of cultural
differences in the workplace.
G. Increase knowledge of environmental factors which influence the management process:
quality, continuous change, and international business.
H. Develop, improve, and enrich your personal philosophy of management and management
techniques and skills.
