1121: DRAWING I
I. Effective Date: Spring, 2002
II. Catalog Description: Ideas, methods,
and materials of drawing as a means of expression in
the visual arts. Working primarily from nature and still
life, students develop technical skills to
accurately represent
three-dimensional objects on a two-dimensional surface. Emphasis on
composition,
perspective, measurement, value, line, tone, and volume through the exploration
of various drawing
media. Students also develop their
visual vocabulary and critiquing skills.

A. The Drawing Elements and Their Use:
1. Line
2. Tone or value
3. Shape
4. Proportion
5. Perspective
6. Composition

8. Gestural Drawing
B. The Various Dry Media
C. Wet Media
III. Outcomes: Students should be able to:
A.
Identify and explain basic
representational techniques to render objects from the visual world on the
two-dimensional drawing surface.
Demonstrate the ability to use these technical skills by successfully

Create and explain original drawings
that explore a variety of formal problems. Demonstrate and explain a personal visual expression and

elements that are common to all works of art.
Demonstrate the ability to use these visual elements to create effective
