ART 1112: BASIC COLOR PHOTOGRAPHY
I. Effective
Date: Spring, 2002
II. Catalog
Description: Color shooting and printing, emphasizing camera techniques and
photographic
composition. Topics include color
films, film and print processing, filters, and lighting effects. Students must have a camera (variable F.
Stop, or shutter, or both is strongly recommended), and must purchase color
slide and negative film, color print paper and processing, textbook, and other
recommended supplies. Projects
emphasize technical, visual, and conceptual aspects of color photography. MNTC: Goal 2 & 6

Content:
A. Natural light photography, studio
lighting, and electronic filters
B. Tungsten light, daylight, and
florescent light and their effect on color films
C. Technical use of camera and its
accessories
D. Composition and design in photography
and basic color theory
E. Types of film and use of filters
F. Creative color photography by historic
and contemporary photographers
G. Printing of color slides and color
negatives
I. Matting and mounting of color prints
V. Outcomes:
Students should be able to:
A.
Identify and explain the
fundamentals of 35mm camera operation.
Demonstrate
technical
skills in the use of color films, printing processes, use of filters, and
lighting
conditions by successfully completing a variety of photographic

B. Create
original photographs, through a variety of formal problems and camera
techniques, that demonstrate a personal visual expression and the perceptual

explain the visual elements (especially color theory) that are common to
all works of art, and demonstrate ability to use these
elements effectively in

explain historic and contemporary color photography as well as
commercial
photography as a means of expressing human value. MNTC Goal 6 (A,B,C)
F. Participate
in group discussions and critiques to explain and evaluate the effectiveness
