ART 1103:  SURVEY OF ART HISTORY 2:  Renaissance through Eighteen Century

(3 Credits)

 

  I.        Effective Date:  Fall 2007

 

 II.         Catalog Description: A world view of major architecture, sculpture, painting, and crafts from       the Italian Renaissance through the Age of Reason.  Includes Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo,

Rembrandt, and Goya.  Lectures, discussions, films, museum assignments.

B.         The Early Renaissance in Italy

C.         The High Renaissance in Italy

D.         Mannerism and other Trends

E.         The Renaissance in the North

F.         The Baroque in Italy and Spain

G.         The Baroque in Flanders and Holland

H.         The Rococo

I.          Neoclassicism

J.         Romanticism

 

V.         Outcomes:  Through the study of a variety of works from the history of western and non-            western art, the student must be able to:

 

A.         Identify and describe the major movements, periods of art, and the stylistic characteristics

B.         Explain and describe the lives and work of individual artists, influences upon them, and their stylistic

development.  Explain their work as expressions of human values within an historical, cultural, and

C.         Identify and describe the historical, religious, and social circumstances that shape the history of art.
